I så fall i mycket stora antal. Kan det vara så att Mortimers uppgiftslämnare blandade ihop de två motorerna EA288 och EA 888? I så fall så är det dags nu. Det är mer logiskt att CGI skulle komma först i en diesel än i en bensinare. Först när dieseltekniken är fullt penetrerad kommer bensinare att behöva CGI.
Starkaste dieselmotorn benämns 2,0 TDI 4Motion GTS och är som beteckningen avslöjar fyrhjulsdriven. Här har Volkswagen pressat upp effekten till hela 240 hästkrafter och vridmomentet till 500 newtonmeter jämnt. Det gör dieselkombin rasande snabb. 0-100 km/h, för kombiversionen som tidigare nämnt, går på 6,3 sekunder. Toppfarten är 238 km/h. Förbrukningen uppges till 0,54 liter per mil och koldioxidutsläppet till 140 gram per kilometer.

VW confirms EA888 has CGI cylinder block
Volkswagen AG has confirmed that the latest version of the EA888 engine, production of which has just started at the company’s which new engine factory in Silao, Mexico, does have a cylinder block cast in compacted graphite iron (CGI).
Wolfsburg officials decline to name the foundry but most likely it is Tupy SA, in Joinville, Brazil, the world’s leading supplier of CGI cylinder blocks. Tupy already sources CGI blocks to Audi, a VW subsidiary. Tupy SA uses SinterCast’s CGI process control technology to achieve high standards of materials consistency and quality. For this contract, Tupy will source the CGI castings from its foundry in Saltillo, Mexico where SinterCast installed two of its lines earlier this year.
A spokesman said: “I have been informed by our Wolfsburg colleagues that we will not be revealing current production numbers at Silao. Please understand that this is as frustrating for us as it is for you.”
He added: “This is a new version of the engine, but not the same version as that in the Golf GTI Mk7. Production officially started on 16 January this year. I can confirm the block does indeed use CGI. I do know that Silao is producing the EA888 engine specifically for the North American and Mexican plants.”

SCOOP: CGI set for four-cylinder engine blocks
Confirmation that four-cylinder engines with compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder blocks are now not far away from volume production comes with the revelation that Grainger & Worrall (G&W) has been casting prototype blocks for some time.
According to sources, the company has been casting four-cylinder blocks for over 12 months. Typical batch sizes range from 50 units, plus or minus 10 or 20 units.
It is understood the engines are destined for a European passenger car. The cylinder blocks are small, compact four-cylinder units, according to well-placed sources.
In June of this year, autoindustrynewsletter.blogspot.co.uk revealed that Volkswagen had confirmed that its EA888 gasoline engine would have CGI cylinder blocks. The news item is one of the most actively trafficked reports of the blogspot

OM det är så att VW har uppnått dessa siffror med CGI hur tror ni de andra tillverkarna reagerar, och agerar?
