Efficiency, Performance From Audi’s Electric Turbo Prototype

Based on the firm’s RS5 performance coupe, Audi’s turbocharged tech could legitimately wear bright 80s-style turbo stickers. And in fact, it does–in a sort of restrained, Germanic way.

But while normal RS5s motor down the road with a V-8 gasoline engine, the RS5 prototype uses Audi’s 3.0-liter TDI-badged V-6 turbodiesel, equipped with a brace of turbochargers.

The concept develops 553 lb-ft of torque from just 1,250 rpm–111 lb-ft more than Audi’s normal twin-turbo 3.0 TDI. Power has increased too, rising from 272 hp to a 385 hp maximum output.

Det dröjer inte länge innan vi har mer siffror.

 

Som en jämförelse kan nämnas att den nuvarande 3,7 liters V6an på 302 hkr som finns i F-150 har bara 278 lb-ft. Vi bör räkna med att den nya 2.7-liters har runt 320 hkr.  Den stora frågan blir nog hur stor bränsleförbrukning den nya har.

produktionsmål på 2 milj ekv. är uppnått.

The reasons for the Ram’s success are many. The EcoDiesel option provides yet another.

 

The diesel puts out 240 horsepower, not too impressive if you go by this useless way of rating engines. More importantly, it produces 420 pound feet of torque, more than any V6 in the class and, in fact, more than the mighty Hemi V8 available in this same truck.

Chrysler is working to increase production of the diesel engine in Europe that powers the 2014 Ram EcoDiesel pickup. Bigland said demand for the diesel model — which many customers say is topping the 28 miles per gallon fuel economy label — has exceeded expectations.

“Frankly, the demand for diesel has really surprised us,” said Chrysler Group LLC sales chief Reid Bigland.

The diesel version of the truck is sitting on dealer lots for an average of just 13 days, and demand for the diesel engine is about 20 percent of sales. The company is currently building at about 5 percent, Bigland said.

Ny Ford Edge med den nya motorn från F-150

Nu börjas det. Jag har inte själv trott en enda sekund att den nya fina motorn skulle stanna i F-150. Den kommer att få en vid spridning inom Ford.

 

Ford har varit mycket tystlåtna sedan den nya motorn visades i Detroit på NAIAS men nu skriver de att den har en effekt ” på mer än 300 hästkrafter”.

A Sport version of the vehicle will be exclusively available with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 expected to deliver more than 300 horsepower.

 

Detta är en mycket intressant uppgift. Den nuvarande Duratech 37-motorn är på 3,7 liter och har 305 hkr. Den nya 2,7-liters har alltså motsvarande hästkraftsantal ( 305) trots att den är på en liter mindre. Det är en Mustangmotor. Räkna med en snart debut för 2,7-liters V6an i Mustang.

MAN Truck & Bus To Expand Marine Engine Line

MAN Truck & Bus revealed it will introduce a new vee-configuration 12-cylinder diesel engine for heavy-duty marine applications at the SMM show in September. The new D2862 LE441 marine diesel will be rated 735 kW (985 hp), which is a significant increase from the existing D28 engines, the company said.

The company said that through use of a single-stage wastegate turbocharger with charge-air intercooler and adapted valve timing, the engine’s mean pressure was increased and power output raised by 73 kW over the previous D28 engines. In addition, a common rail fuel injection system with EDC control allows for a pre-injection stage, which provides significant benefits in terms of vibration and noise emissions, MAN said.

The crankcases of the D20, D26 and D28 engine ranges are made of high-quality CGI-450 (compacted graphite iron). This material is much stronger than grey cast iron.
